Description from the seller
This work by Armin Göhringer is a hushed, abstract piece in which material, structure and contrast are central. On a ground with dark, horizontal drawings lies a layer of coarsely fibrous, fragile-looking paper, with fibers, folds, tears and openings. This creates an exciting interplay between what is visible and what is covered. The work fits well within Göhringer's exploration of the relationship between wood and paper: he uses coarse-fibrous paper among other things to reproduce the forms and structures of wood. In this way, vulnerability, transience and the natural properties of the material play an important role in the artwork.
Armin Göhringer (1954) is a German sculptor and painter, born in Nordrach in the Black Forest. From 1976 to 1982 he studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main; today he lives in Zell am Harmersbach. He is best known for his sculptures in wood, but he also works with drawings and paper. In his sculptures he saws openings, grids and geometric structures out of solid logs with a chainsaw, creating a contrast between heaviness and lightness, mass and emptiness, solidity and fragility. The same opposites are also found in his paper works. His work thus concerns not only form, but also the properties of natural materials and themes such as balance and transience.
