Etching on heavy paper attributed to a French School of the 19th century, titled Satira Zoomorfa, unsigned, German origin, 125 × 75 mm.
Description from the seller
Details:
• The intellectual attire: The animal wears glasses perched on its snout and a paper hat (reminiscent of a biretta or a boat cap), a typical 19th-century stereotype used to indicate pedantry or a caricature of the academic and bureaucratic world.
• The working tools: With its front paw it holds a goose-quill pen with which it writes in a large ledger or accounting book, while on the wooden table there is an inkwell for ink.
• The touch of class: In its mouth it holds a smoking pipe, a recurring element in portraits of thinkers or gentlemen of the era, here used to emphasize the absurdity of the scene.
Support: Heavier paper
Condition: Excellent black-and-white inking, good state of preservation with slight traces of foxing and browning, small losses, restorations and residual labels, all as shown in the photo;
Shipping insured via Bartolini/DPD courier. To take advantage of the insurance coverage, any damage to the neck must be contested and reported to the courier at the time of delivery. Otherwise, it will not be possible to activate the insurance reimbursement procedure.
