About the artist:
Victor Vasarely: (1906-1997) French painter of Hungarian origin, regarded as the father of optical art, i.e. 'op art'. His works are in the world’s leading museums, including: Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Japan); Fondation Vasarely, Centre Pompidou (France); Walker Art Center, MOMA, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim, New York (USA); Das Museum Folkwang (Germany); Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Portugal); Kröller-Müller Museum (Netherlands); Queensland Art Gallery (Australia); Nykytaiteen museo Kiasma (Finland); Horsens Kunstmuseum (Denmark); Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Italy); National Gallery of Scotland, Tate Collection (Great Britain); Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Argentina); Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje (FYROM); Henie Onstad Museum (Norway); Victor Vasarely Museum, Pécs (Hungary); Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Caracas (Venezuela); Musée des Beaux Arts, Montreal (Canada)...
On the work:
Victor Vasarely's perfectionism demands absolute quality, which could only be guaranteed at that time by Basel printing houses. Thus, between 1971 and 1978, the publishing house Du Griffon in Neuchâtel, Switzerland entrusted Victor Vasarely with the realization, distribution, and dissemination of 19 albums and 12 silkscreens, forming an overview of his work. This unique edition was extracted from a special edition titled “Ondulatoires,” which Vasarely himself designed and supervised, and with the same care for publication quality, Du Griffon produced these series of albums printed in the 1970s, identified by copyright on the back of the prints.
