AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Original engraving by Jan Collaert I from a drawing by Ambrosius Francken depicting the Parable of the mote and the beam.

A specimen with wide margins, on handmade wove paper with a watermark, in excellent condition, only the editorial fold visible (see photo).

Below the image, on the left, Collaert’s monogram “HCF” and the number “1” of the series in the right corner. Further down, a one-line inscription from the Gospel of Luke “Non videmus...est.”, then “CIVisscher excudebat.” and “Luc. 6. 41”;

From the series “Thesaurus Novi Testamenti” first published by Gerard De Jode in 1585, here in Visscher’s edition of the early decades of the 17th century.

On the left, a man with a mote in his eye; opposite him, a man with a beam in his eye who tries to remove the mote from his neighbor’s eye; in the background a landscape with, to the right, a herd of boars.

New Hollstein (Dutch & Flemish), 290.
