Artist biography
Eleonora Stol (1946–2022) was a Dutch visual artist, born in Leiden. She studied at the Vrije Academie in The Hague and spent a significant part of her artistic career based in Amsterdam.
Her body of work includes paintings and graphic art in which an expressive, colorful visual language is central. Stol combined figurative representations with abstract elements, strong contours, and a free, intuitive handling of color and form. Themes such as love, human relationships, dance, and dreams recur in her work.
The designation ‘La Roja’, which she also used as an artist’s name, refers to her special connection with the color red. Her work is characterized by a personal visual language in which painterly spontaneity, figuration, and decorative elements come together.
