Artist biography
Eleonora Stol (1946–2022) was a Dutch visual artist, born in Leiden. She studied at the Vrije Academie in The Hague and worked in Amsterdam for a significant part of her artistic career.
Her oeuvre includes paintings and graphic work centered on an expressive, colorful visual language. Stol combined figurative depictions with abstract elements, bold outlines, and a free, intuitive treatment of color and form. Themes such as love, human relationships, dance, and dreamlike imagery recur in her work.
The name “La Roja,” which she also used as an artist’s name, refers to her special affinity with the color red. Alongside vivid shades of pink, yellow, green, and blue, this color recurs in her compositions. Her work is distinguished by a personal visual language that brings together painterly spontaneity, figuration, and decorative elements.
