Alice Braat (born 1971), Je veux sortir d'ici! (haas), a C-print, edition 1/8, 100 x 76 cm, hand-signed, in good condition, sold by Galerie, genre Kunstfotografie.
Description from the seller
This striking and atmospheric fine-art photograph shows a brown hare sitting upright and looking to the left with an alert, almost human expression. Against a deeply dark background the animal is subtly illuminated, allowing the fine texture of its fur, the long ears and the glint in its eye to come forward beautifully. The restrained composition and the refined play between light and shadow recall classical portrait painting, in which the subject's personality is central. Notably, the way the hare's body gradually blends into the darkness, while its head and chest remain clearly visible. This creates a mysterious, almost theatrical atmosphere. The photograph transcends traditional wildlife photography and takes on the character of a still portrait, in which vulnerability, vigilance and dignity come together. The work invites the viewer to see the animal not only as part of nature, but as an individual with its own presence and character.
Alice Braat (1971) is a Dutch photographer who in her work shows a special interest in the relationship between humans, animals and nature. She trained at the Fotoacademie and developed a photographic approach in which aesthetics, personal involvement and respect for her subjects come together. Her images are characterized by careful composition, a strong sense of light and an attentive way of looking. In addition to her artistic photography, Braat works on documentary projects in which the connection between people and their natural environment is central. An important example is her long-term collaboration with the San communities in Namibia. This resulted in the photo book ANCIENT Wisdom in Modern Society, in which she documents their ancient knowledge, traditions and special relationship with nature. The project received international recognition at the International Photography Awards. With her photography Braat aims not only to make beauty visible, but also to raise awareness of the value and vulnerability of the natural world.
