This abstract composition by Victor Hasch bears witness to a gestural exploration in which the energy of the line meets the subtlety of the medium. The work rests on a precarious balance between spontaneity and control, with the density of a charcoal black, applied with force and intensity, set against a surface brightened by areas of white and pale pink. The canvas bears traces of the artist’s direct gesture, from accidental drips to deliberate marks, suggesting an instinctive approach to the creative process.
The addition of touches of red and blue, applied in small, controlled strokes, breaks up this restrained palette and brings further dynamism to the composition. Straddling the boundary between Art Informel and minimalism, the work recalls certain explorations of Art Brut and the gestural movements of the late 20th century, in which the act of painting becomes an immediate transcription of a fleeting thought. With his discreet “VH” signature at the bottom right, Hasch grounds the work in a personal dimension and asserts a form of complete freedom, in which abstraction becomes a language in its own right, freed from all figurative representation, leaving room only for pure, raw emotion.
