This work is particularly important: it constitutes the tenth and last of Kandinsky's major Compositions, created while he lived in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1939, the year he obtained French nationality.
The black background, unusually dominant, reinforces the impression of an infinite space in which the colored shapes seem to float like notes in a musical score.
It is the work that marks the culmination of several decades of research on abstraction.
The original is kept at the Kunstsammlung in Düsseldorf.
Just like Chagall, Matisse, Picasso or Pierre Soulages, Kandinsky shaped art in France, but also around the world.
P.S: The frame and the mat are not part of the lot. Thank you
