Lot of 4 engravings taken from the work by Anton and Jerome Wierix after drawings by Bernardino Passeri, used to illustrate the Evangelicae Historiae Imagines by Jérôme Nadal, first edition published in Antwerp in 1593, here in a 17th-century edition in contrast to the originals.
The engravings depict biblical episodes from the life of Jesus, with a French title and the plate number at the top, and below the image a French explanatory text in two columns.
- Jesus sets out for Jerusalem
- Jesus explains the first commandment
- The Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican
- Jesus prepares the Apostles for suffering by foretelling his passion.
Exemplars on a full sheet, on laid paper, in excellent condition, only very rare reddish specks on the verso (see photos).
