AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Very beautiful original engraving depicting the Abduction of Ganymede by Zeus in the form of an eagle. Proof with very wide margins, on laid paper with a watermark, in excellent condition, only faint blemishes at the margins and on the reverse (see photo).
At the bottom left, "Ann.Carac. Inv.", at the center, "C. Cesius del. et sculp. Romae", further right, "A. Westerhout formis Cum Privil. S. Pontificis".
Proof in II state/3, with Westerhout's address instead of Collignon's.
From the series of 44 copper engravings, all’acquaforte "Galeria nel Palazzo Farnese in Roma. del Sereniss. Duca di Parma etc. dipinta da Annibale Carracci intagliata da Carlo Cesio", first published by François Collignon in 1657, depicting, in the same orientation, the frescoes painted by Annibale Carracci for the Farnese Gallery.
The abduction of the youth Ganymede by Zeus framed in an architectural border, on the sides two satyrs as telamons leaning on the shelves of a fireplace below.
