Agustí Puig’s *Hotel I* (1992) is a hand-signed, limited-edition offset print, numbered 232/250, depicting an interior scene in Pop Art style and measuring 70 × 50 cm.
Description from the seller
Agustí Puig, Signed lithograph and numbered
lithograph by the painter Agustí Puig (Sabadell 1957). Currently thriving in New York.
Dimensions 70 x 50 cm.
The numbering may vary.
Influenced by transavant-garde and seduced by comics and graphic design, Puig immerses himself in a phase of romantic landscapes, which will lead to the reivindication of the roots of Pop Art. His stay in New York, in 1992, signified a rethinking of his plastic priorities; the density of matter and gesture will accompany him in the multiple and incessant creative transformations. Rapid and vigorous manufacture of earthy, reddish, whites and blacks colors that become spaces for reflection on the essence of life and an evident return to his most primitive origins.
Agustí Puig has held international exhibitions and in his long career as an artist one notable curiosity stands out: his role in Woody Allen's film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," for which he loaned a portion of his work and also advised Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem in their roles as artists.
From a young age he began painting and made himself known as a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell, at the beginning of the eighties. Parallelly, he soon gained recognition in the field of graphic design. He studied at the Sabadell School of Arts and Crafts, at the Massana School and the Artistic Circle of Saint Luke in Barcelona. In 1985 he received the 4th Mention for the Joan Miró International Drawing Prize and in 1986 he was selected for the Young Art Show organized by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. He has exhibited in Spain, France, England, the United States and Japan. He collaborated as a painter in the film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, by Woody Allen, something that has brought him to be known outside the usual circles. The extensive body of Agustí Puig's work has been shown in several institutions and is included in private and public collections: the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan, the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Testigo Collection of the La Caixa Foundation in the Balearic Islands, or the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tarragona, among others.
