This German genre and landscape painter was born in Zella and he passed away in Treysa. Knauf was part of the famous Willingshäuser Maler colony which was founded in 1824. Knauf liked to travel and worked, among others, in Spain, southern France and Corsica. In Germany he lived and worked, among others, in Berlin, Dessau, Sylt and Ziegenheim.
