Very nice and large painting showing Edam. 
Size including frame: 67 x 87 cm. 
Signed with J Kelderman.  
Painting is in good condition, frame has some signs of use. 

Jan Kelderman was both a painter and a merchant.

He lived with his family in a small studio in Amsterdam East, where he mainly manufactured Amsterdam cityscapes and seascapes. The family Kelderman was not rich, but could live reasonably well
of the proceeds of his paintings.

In his younger years Kelderman bought and sold at second hand markets articles and curiosities but soon he specialised in paintings. Kelderman had a particular talent, which he developed himself
into a very acceptable, impressionist style.
