A non-commercial or trade bottling, perhaps as a sample, of a rare John Exshaw Grande Champagne Cognac No.20, vintage 1943 (38/40 G.L.). Irishman John Exshaw founded this Cognac house in 1805. In the 19th century Exshaw was an important player on the English market and market leader in India and the Far East. After WWII Exshaw lost it's major position in the Far East and slightly got forgotten until bought by Otard in 1975. But even Otard was unable to revive it's fortunes. 

The label has some cellar damge due to humidity; the capsule is corroded with a small crack on the top edge, but intact; the cork appears to be in excellent condition; no eveidence of seepage. The quantity of contents is not marked on the label, however the height of liquid in the bottle is 18.5 cm and the diameter is 7 cm, so a quick calculation gives it approximately 700 ml. I believe the fill level is normal, based upon another bottle I have had which appeared exactly the same.
