The Solnhofen stone became suddenly famous with the invention of lithography in 1798 and was produced until the end of the 19th century.

Each printing process requires a print template, e.g. a medium containing the printed texts, drawings and pictures. The lithography stone is used in the lithographic printing process. In commerce, lithographic stones are offered in thicknesses between 5 and 10 cm. The richest deposits are mined in France near Dijon, in Switzerland in Solothurn, Switzerland and Germany in Solnhofen. Solnhofen limestone rock is considered the world's best material for lithographic printing plates.
The Solnhofen natural stone suddenly became world famous with the invention of lithography in 1798. Invented by Alois Senefelder, it has revolutionized the world of image communication, as once the invention of the printing press did for the dissemination of texts. Today, this legendary stone is not only in demand by artists as a Litho stone. but also worldwide as exclusive natural flooring.
