Rare Longines 17.61, produced from the late 19th century until the 1930s, for the Ottoman market.
This fine key-wound mechanical movement was made for the first time in 1891.
The charm of the wind and the time setting by key was of great interest to Djezvedjian, the Longines distributor for the Ottoman Empire, with headquarters in Constantinople, which became Istanbul in 1930.
The first importation was on 11 March 1911, with the watch bearing the serial number 2.306.885.

Its great success in the East lasted until the early 1940s, and it was so evident that it persuaded the company to produce this calibre almost exclusively for the Turkish market, with customisation that featured on both the dial and the movement with an inscription in Arabic on the bridge of the barrel.

The set of wheels is traditional with five wheels and flat steel spiral.

The movement has 15 jewels, which generate a frequency of 18,000 oscillations per hour.

The size is typical of the 17", so: 38.35 mm in diameter, thickness: 6.50 mm.

This watch, with number 3.486.823, as certified by Longines, was shipped to the Longines distributor for the Ottoman Empire in Constantinople on 21 June 1918.

As seen in the photos, the watch has some signs of wear, but there is no damage to the dial or the crystal. The movement is in working order, but like the whole watch, it bears the marks of a century of life. The key with silver chain is also included.
The Longines certificate will be included in the insured shipment.
