John Laurance

Excellently made large tile tableau with a decor of ships and in a frame.
It looks typically Rotterdam made in the 18th century, except that it is painted on 20th century tiles.
Various ships after 17th century example are visible in the depiction.
The signature is unknown to me. It is not possible to photograph the reverse of the tiles due to the frame.

The dimensions of the frame are approx. 87 x 55 cm.
The individual tiles are approx. 11 x 11 cm.  
In good condition.

This concerns a hand painted depiction in a traditional style with ornaments as on tableaus from the period 1750-1800. If the crackle is viewed in more detail, I suspect that it isn’t tin glaze, though underglaze. The depiction is directly painted on white earthenware and covered with a glossy layer of lead glaze or a more modern alternative for lead glaze, transparent anyways.
