Cute sculpture of George Studdy’s Bonzo, ca. 1930, a sought-after collector’s item.

George Ernest Studdy (Davenport, 23 June 1878 - 25 July 1948) was a British art trader. He is best remembered by his creation Bonzo the dog, a fictional person in the early 1920s which was first published in The Sketch Magazine.

His Bonzo character was a chubby small white puppy with black spots, a blunt tail and large blue eyes. Bonzo became the inspiration of many commercial articles, such as stuffed animals and mechanical toys, sculptures, car accessories, jigsaw puzzles, books, calendars, candy and picture postcards.

Bonzo’s enormous popularity provided a comfortable life for Studdy and his wife until his passing in 1948.

The sculpture’s dimensions are 16 x 13 x 10 cm.

It weighs approx. 400 grams.

It is in perfect and intact condition. Photos are a supplement to the description.
