The Kore initiation is the phase intended to build the male identity at individual level and group level.

Every 7 years a class is "killed in the Kore". 
By this pseudo sacrifice, young men prove their courage, because obviously nobody informs them that it is a simulation.

When they are reborn under the adult identity, they must give up their childhood’s privileges...
The monkey mask is emblematic of the last class of Koré. 
Evolving apart, he jumps, leaps into the crowd, chasing the women with obscene facial expressions.

In fact, it is the mask that controls the audience by triggering laughter through its dances and tomfoolery.
