Lacquered wooden quadrille game box, with gilt and black Chinese decoration with outlines imitating ink, on a red and black tortoiseshell motif background.

This box opens onto four token boxes, all decorated on their lids with a gilt Chinese figure sitting in a natural plant decoration and holding an umbrella. They are also lacquered, on black and red background imitating the tortoiseshell motif. They have in the centre a bone swivel disc showing numbers. They open onto an interior painted in dark ochre and decorated with a gilt brass frieze, with a wavelet motif, joining the hinges. They have a set of 22 bone tokens.

One of the hinges on one of the four boxes (the one with the yellow disc: see photo), and one of the brass hooks closing the main box (see photo) are missing.

In overall well-preserved condition.
