The pieces mainly come from Gabon and DRC, and to a lesser extent, west Africa. 

Rounded mask, easily recognisable.  Well-preserved, bright polychromy. 
Strongly marked features conferring a magnificent aspect. 
Undeniable piece, carved by an experienced sculptor. 

Among the Eket, masks of this type intervened within rites performed by the Ekpo society, in charge of the ancestors’ cult.  It would also appear in funerary ceremonies.
