Peter Reynaers

A finely modelled gold pendant in the shape of a fly, featuring a smooth surface of bright gold. The reverse has incised cross-hatched lines to imitate the fly’s body. 

Flies were worn as protective amulets and symbolized persistence; soldiers were given golden flies as an award by the pharaoh for heroic efforts in battle. 

Measurements: 0.9cm length 

Weight: 0.62g

Provenance: From a private French collection, formed in the early 20th century.
