Beautiful and well-preserved example of an extinct genus of sea lily species, the Crinoids, named Scyphocrinus elegans. The details of the crinoid are very well visible. The size of the crinoid is 26 x 24 cm. The total dimensions of the matrix included is 28 cm 24 cm. Crinoids are no plants such as the name sea lily suggests. They are animals that filter the water with their flower-like structures in order to extract nutrients. These sea lilies have fossilized on the walls of horizontal caves. To obtain these fossils seekers must descend 20 meters deep into these caves. With a drilling machine, the plates are then drilled loose. These boreholes are still visible on the rear side of the plate. Usually, the fossil plates are retrieved in parts. Also this specimen consists of several parts which were skillfully put back together. The fossil has been treated with a preservative to keep it in good condition. Very nice and decorative fossil with a weight of 3.6kg
