Gilles Peress (born December 29, 1946 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France) is an internationally active French documentary photographer and photojournalist. Peress is a member of the Magnum Photos photography association.

Peress, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1946, attended the Institut d’Etudes Politiques from 1966 to 1968 and studied political science and philosophy. He then attended the University of Vincennes until 1971. Since 1970 he has devoted himself to photography and in 1972 he joined the group of the photo agency Magnum Photos [1]. In 1974 he became a member of the agency of photographers. 1984/85 he was its deputy chairman, 1986/87 and 1989–1990 its chairman. He is represented in business by the Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York. Peress was a. Photographer for The New Yorker and Senior Researcher at the Human Rights Center at the University of California, Berkeley.
