A signed original pen and ink Modesty Blaise strip drawn by Jim Holdaway for the story ‘Takeover’, written by Peter O’Donnell and first published in the Evening Standard in 1969.

The strip features members of the Cosa Nostra asking how Modesty and Willie Garvin would like to die... Willie's sense of humour shocks the gangsters.

The strip is accompanied by a fascinating new publication which delves into the work and life of both Jim Holdaway and legendary British Science Fiction artist Sydney Jordan. The book focuses on the origins of the Modesty Blaise who was inspired by a real encounter. It also includes the try out drawings by Frank Hampson and shows initial character studies for Modesty and Willie Garvin. The Modesty Blaise origin story ‘In the Beginning’ is also reproduced in double page format.

This is a very classy strip featuring Modesty, often compared to the female James Bond, Gangsters, Dames and Willie Garvin.

Original Jim Holdaway strips are becoming rarer to find as collectors rarely agree to part with them!
