3 silver prints of gymnast Iréne POPARD by Pierre APERS - period 1925-1930. Size of the photos: 20 x 14.5 - 21 x 16.5 - 21.5 x 16 In glass with a passe-partout.

Signed on the negative in the photo on the lower left corner.

Pierre APERS is a Parisian photographer from the interwar period, specialised in the portrayal of artistic personalities (Minstinguett, etc). 

Iréne POPARD (1894-1950) discovered dance in the United States with Isadora Duncan from 1910 onwards; back in France, she deepened her method and created the Association de Gymnastique et Rythmique; her method spread beyond the French borders, and is still taught today. The discipline was closely linked to dance and she presented ‘la Naissance des Couleurs’ in 1949 at the Paris Opera, at the request of Serge Lifar.

The prints depict the artist in demonstrations of her art.
