Complete in 3 octavo volumes, tawny half calfskin. Smooth spines, stamped with the imperial eagle. Red and bottle green lambskin title and volume number labels. The frontispiece engravings are missing.

Books in excellent condition. First edition. 292 + 388 + 480 pp.


The famous memoirs of the father of the poet, of primary interest for Napoleonic Italy and the Spanish Civil War. The first volume recounts the War of Vendée, the An VIII campaign then Italy, Fradiavolo; it ends with considerations on art and military medicine. The second volume contains the "Précis historique des événemens qui ont conduit Joseph Napoléon sur le trône d'Espagne." (102 pages) before continuing with the Spanish Civil War; the third volume contains the account of the Siege of Thionville which had previously been published separately. (Tulard, 712 - Vicaire IV, col. 225 - Quérard IV, p. 157).
