First edition of this rare book by the military doctor, Alphonse Bertherand (1815-1887).
Copy enriched with a nice handwritten dedication by the author “Hommage de l'auteur à Mr le Dr Figuier [A Bertherand]".
Collection of “medical-surgical” letters written day to day, from the theatre of war.
Dedicated to Marshal Vaillant, Minister of War from 1854 to
1859 and Commander-in-Chief of the Italian Army in 1859 against the Austrians.
The Italian Campaign of 1859, also known as the Italian War of 1859 corresponding to the
Second Italian War of Independence, sees the Franco-Piedmontese army clash with
that of the Austrian Empire. Its conclusion allows the reunion on Lombardy to the kingdom of
Sardinia and lays the foundation for the constitution of the Kingdom of Italy.
