Exceptional commission drawing made by Willy Vandersteen for a young fan in the late 1950s, early 1960s. The drawing was made in pencil, Chinese ink and watercolour and is signed by Vandersteen.
Origin of this drawing: I purchased this drawing around twenty years ago from a man who was about 50 years old at the time. The drawing was made in a poetry album and was removed from it and sold to me. The man's mother worked for the Vandersteen family as a housekeeper at the time; this is how he obtained the drawing.
A quintessential commission drawing, very rare in colour. In my thirty years of collecting, I have seen such a drawing at most 5 times.
The page is 16 x 12.5 cm and the Wiske figure is (excluding the clouds above) 9 cm tall. Small notches in the paper on the left side where the page was attached to the album. Also some minor creases in the lower left. In very good condition overall. An extra bonus is that the drawing does not feature a name.
