This was awarded to a world famous man, the founder of the tour do France and the creator of the sporting newspaper “l’équipe”, my grand father - Jacques Goddet 
This is French ‘Legion Of Honour’ medal. The legion of honour is the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits, established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte and retained by all later French governments and régimes.
One side of the medal features Napoleon’s side profile and the words ‘Republique Francaise 1870’ the other side features 2 french flags and the words ‘Honneur Et Patrie’. The medal and enamel work are both in excellent condition and it comes in its original box with its original ribbon.
