Originally, two and a half TGV trains were built for La Poste for postal transport after the opening of the LGV Sud-Est. This number was later supplemented by an extra train set after the transformation of a TGV Sud-Est train set into post-train set. They considered the conversion of another Sud-Est train set into a postal train set, but due to the decrease in postal traffic this was no longer necessary. After 2014, La Poste will carry out postal transport with lorries and exchange containers by train. As with most postal services, letter usage has shrunk with the increased use of e-mail, but parcel shipment has grown. On June 27, 2015, the unit 6995 last ran from Cavaillon to Paris and its deployment came to an end with the introduction of the Postal TGV.
