An Ancient Roman triangular-shaped gold appliqué, rendered in an upside down prism design. The appliqué has been pierced with two holes at the top for attachment. This type of appliqué was used in antiquity to decorate and embellish dresses, robes and garment. The bottom dome has been chipped. 

In the Roman world, grapes maintained a strong association with Bacchus, God of wine, madness and the ecstasy of intoxication, also associated with Greek Dionysus. It has therefore come to hold a number of different symbols, including fertility, abundance and festivities. In addition, the grape is an important symbol in Christianity, representing wine and henceforth the blood of Christ. Due to their importance, grapes became common funerary reliefs on tombs or on sarcophagi, as offerings to the journey to the afterlife; symbolising a source of life even in death.
