Exceptionally rare, very large fossil Sclerocephalus deaccessioned from an old, important collection. 

Dating to the Permian, from Pfalz, South West Germany - the excavation site having been closed several decades ago. 

Measuring 0.9 metres from the tip of snout, along the vertebrae to the end of the tail. 

Matrix plate measures 1.02 metre x 0.52 metre.
 
Presented in ventral aspect (belly up) - this orientation permits viewing of the underneath of the skull, exhibiting extraordinary detail including teeth!

This large specimen boasts not only excellent bone preservation but also has significant soft tissue preservation!

All 4 limbs, toes are preserved (left fore/hind limbs tucked into the body).

The skull is commonly found preserved with only the top of the cranium visible - this specimen, however, has the underneath of the skull visible, showing the outline of the massive lower jaw.
