Papa   award for services rendered to the Roman Catholic Church or the Roman Catholic faith.
 The prize was awarded on 17 July 1888 by Pope Leo XIII on the occasion of his 50th birthday as a priest.  The award was originally awarded in bronze, silver and gold, but in 1908 Pope Pius X determined that the medal would only be awarded in gold.

 The cross was created in the tenth year of his pontificate.  An interesting point, four comets and lilies are from the family coat of arms of the noble Pecci family, the family to which Pope Leo XIII belonged. 
Cross in excellent condition and magnificent Patina. The box is from another award.
