Franklin Mint / American Mint.
Collector knife from the series "American Generals of World war 2".
This is the knife with George C. Marshall, also knowned as "The Wizard".
The knife is completely silver-plated with an image of George C. Marshall on the front.
The lemmet is stainless steel.
On the lemmet there is the signature of George Catlett Marshall.
On the back is the 24 carat gold-plated medal of American Mint.
Length of the knife unfolded: 20 cm.
Length of the knife when folded: 11.5 cm.
Weight : 263 grams.
Very, very good condition and this knife has never been on Catawiki.
It is a very rare knife, very few were made.

Brief military summary of General George C. Marshall

George Catlett Marshall was an American five-star general.
He is best known in Europe for his Marshall Plan to use American financial support in Western Europe for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.

Military career

Marshall was born into a middle-class family.
After graduating from the Virginia Military Institute in 1901, he entered the United States Army.
He was stationed at various positions in the US and the Philippines, and was trained in modern warfare.

First World War
During the First World War he went to France in the summer of 1917 with the rank of captain as the chief of training and planning for the 1st Infantry Division.
In the middle of 1918, he was promoted to the headquarters of the American Expeditionary Forces, where he became a key planner for U.S. operations.
He played an important role in shaping and coordinating the Meuse-Argonne Offensive forced Germany to surrender.

He was promoted to brigadier general in October 1936.
In 1939, he was appointed Chief of the General by President Franklin D. Roosevelt staff (passing 20 others who had been generals for some time), which he remained until 1945.

WWII
Marshall wrote the central strategy document for all Allied operations in Europe, selected Dwight Eisenhower as Supreme Commander in Europe and ordered Operation Overlord,   the Normandy invasion, form.
During the remainder of World War II, Marshall coordinated all Allied operations in Europe and the Pacific.
He was characterized by Winston Churchill as the organizer of the Allied victory.
Time Magazine named Marshall Man of the Year in 1944.
In 1944, along with Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur, he was made a five-star general.
As an advisor to Presidents Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, he participated in all the major ones conferences during the war.
