Red copper plaque in 2 parts. The figurative front (representation is hammered) and back with handle; in between, clay was added for firmness (partly still in situ; see photo). Wear and tear of use (hole in the nose). H x W x D = 16.9 x 12.5 x 3.4 cm.

Representation: Virabhadra is in the middle is, with sword, shield, spear, bow, under a kala-makara arch and with a 7 headed naga (snake) above his head. Next to him in small are Daksha with a goat head and Sati. Above a small Nandi and lingam on a yoni stand.
Virabhadra is a warlike form of Shiva. Once he had a relationship with Sati, daughter of High Priest Daksha, Daksha once organized a great offer for all the gods except Shiva, because he found him shabby and abject. Sati was so offended by that that she killed herself in the sacrificial fire. When Shiva realized that, in his ferocious manifestation of Virabhadra, he rushed to the place of doom and beheaded Daksha. The fellow gods understood his act but still felt he had to bring Daksha back to life. Unfortunately, the head was missing. That's why he chopped the head off of a sacrificial buck and placed it on Daksha's body.
