Nice piece of rocky meteorite, Rumuruti type, piece with original crust and the fantastic chondrules  


Rumuruti chondrites a very rare type of chondrites. Less than 0.5% of the chondrites are classified as R. 

They differ from ordinary chondrites mainly in having most of the metal in the form of sulphites, they are more oxidized and contain little nickel and iron metal.

They have a matrix with more dust (about 50%), a higher concentration of zinc and selenium trace elements and a higher proportion of oxygen-17 than the ordinary chondrites. 

They are called "R" after the Rumuruti meteorite, which fell on January 28th, 1934 in the Rift Valley, Kenya.

Chondrites are the oldest materials in the Solar System, having an estimated formation age of 4,550 million years. They are meteorites that have not been differentiated, and since they contain iron, in this case, in low quantity, they are type LL. 

Most of them come from the Asteroids Belt, located between Mars and Jupiter

The characteristic of chondrites is the presence of chondrules, small balls of millimetres in size, largely composed of silicates. 

The standard model for their initial formation is that they occur during the condensation of solar nebula, of cosmic dust. 

Chondrites are the first elements from which the planets are formed.
