A Grebo statue from Liberia / Ivory Coast, standing straight, the arms close to the body, with a mask as face, of shield-like elongated fascia shape, a projecting rectangular mouth with two rows of gritted teeth, a very slender long nose, next to it are two symmetrically arranged tubular eyes, an allusion to the expression "four eyes" often quoted in West Africa, denoting a person endowed with the power of divination, a piece of cloth at the back of the head; reddish and white patina, some age cracks on torso and head.

The Kru are divided into twenty-four subgroups, which include the Grebo, settled in southern Liberia and southwestern Côte d'Ivoire. BODIO, who heads this ethnic group, lives a secluded life. Unlike most West African populations, they are not subject to Poro society. Their masks with tubular protuberances are said to be of Ubi origin and possibly symbolize the mythical creatures that inhabit the forests on the banks of the Cavally, which people address through ceremonies.
