1978 World Cup: Fischer played a pivotal role in West Germany's 1978 World Cup campaign, scoring important goals, including a memorable bicycle kick against France in the semifinals. West Germany ultimately finished as the runners-up in that tournament.

Club Success: Throughout his club career, Fischer had various successes, including helping FC Schalke 04 win the UEFA Cup (now known as the UEFA Europa League) in the 1996-97 season.
