冨田立山 Tomita Ritsuzan Echizen lacquerware Japanese Gold Lacquer Makie Flower Vase 'Crane and Pine' with Box

Echizen lacquerware is a lacquer craft that has been made in the Kawada district of Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, and the surrounding area since the late Kofun Period. The technique of making lacquerware has been nurtured in Sabae because of the large number of lacquer scrapers who have worked in the area since ancient times and the availability of high-quality timber. The characteristic feature of lacquerware is that it has an elegant and shiny lacquered surface, yet it is also light and sturdy.
