This ''Glenfiddich'' in an unfamiliar guise is hardly recognizable as a product of this distillery. The peated barley malt makes for some interesting accents, although the whisky is far from a 'smoke monster'. Instead, memories of the old "Caoran Reserve" with the silver label are awakened. A harmonious single malt with a nice balance, which unfortunately only gives an idea of what would have been possible with a few more percent. Still sweet and tasty.
Nose
Gentle peat smoke hovers over a flattering scent of summer honey and heather, no medicinal notes, that's the smell of a dying campfire with mild herbal notes, dried marjoram and thyme, a little chamomile, a dried bouquet of wild flowers on a bed of warm straw, baked apple with cinnamon and brown sugar, orange marmalade without peel parts, toffee and roasted hazelnuts, there are no recognizable young accents, instead everything seems well mature and at the same time delicately malty, the oak is elegantly reserved and contributes only very little vanilla
Taste
Very soft, despite the low alcohol strength it doesn't seem thin or watery, honey and malt, now also vanilla and some caramel, candied orange, the citrus note makes it tingle a bit, properly ripened barley, it becomes more and more roasted and spicy, crispy browned hazelnuts, the gentle campfire smoke now takes over, but leaves enough room for the appealing barley malt, slightly ashy, cinnamon and allspice, again a hint of marjoram as well as thyme and chamomile, little liquorice, the oak is now more clearly recognizable and has both toasty and robust notes sides, but remains free of bitter substances
Finish
Adequate length, no alcoholic tendencies and surprisingly strong at the beginning, clearly malty and with some roasted aromas, briefly the mild oak provides a few tart moments, liquorice, a small piece of dark chocolate is melted with a sip of black tea, little vanilla , heather, the campfire that finally goes out leaves one last cloud of herbal smoke, a very thin layer of ash settles, this is almost completely free of tar
