High End Teac Cassete Deck with DBX

The V-500X is one of the last Teacs with silver-framed multi-color face with large 13 segment LED peak level meters. It has a three-position tape type selector, but each button activates both bias and EQ for the respective tape type simultaneously. In return, there are buttons for the three major NR systems: Dolby B, Dolby C and dbx II, with dbx Disc decoder.
There is a very versatile 4 digit electronic tape counter, which along with the standard mode also supports Tape Run Time, Remaining Tape Time for 4 tape lengths, Memory Rewind to Stop and Play, Block Repeat. There is also a computerized search facility (Computomatic Program System).
The tape transport is a single motor, single capstan drive employing only one belt. This is in order to support the search functions above.
It is a rather heavy deck. A large shielded power transformer, there solenoids, a large flywheel in combination with a clutch and cam, and the almost all-metal transport with only a limited amount of plastic parts account for this weight.
The deck uses Teac’s Cobalt Amorphous head, which offers excellent electromagnetic properties and extended headroom, allowing for a frequency response of 30 to 20000 Hz with metal tape.
