Altar Cross in gilt brass, late 17th century.
Altar cross with Mary and John mourning under the cross wilth the crucified Jesus.
On a lobed base decorated with floral patterns and leaves and tassels.
At the back of the cross are the so-called 'Arma Christi' (weapons of Christ) or the instruments of the Passion like: crown of thorns, rooster, hammer etc. ( in total 17 objects in detail)
The pedestal on which Mary and John are standing is supported by female figures in Renaissance style.
The skull and bones - symbol of Calvary - is supported by leaves.
All cast figures are expertly chiseled.
Fire gilt over the entire surface.
Probably made in Austia or Switzerland in the last quarter of the 17th century by a skilled craftsman.
Dimensions: 37 (h), 15.5 (w), 13.3 (d) cm.
