A jingasa is a type of hat used by foot soldiers and foot soldiers in battlefields since the Muromachi period.
Made from thin iron or leather, it was painted with lacquer and used as a substitute for a helmet. Those used by generals and warriors were wooden and lacquered. In later times, it was called a sorigasa, and was used by samurai when going out and other occasions. It was made from kneaded leather and lacquered with black, vermilion, silver, or gold on the back. The front had a family crest, and some were decorated with lacquer and aquamarine.

This is a wooden jingasa made in the Edo period, with a family crest painted with lacquer and gold lacquer.
It is an old item, so it has deteriorated over time and has been repaired. Please check the image.
