Artist Biography: Francesco Gioia, born in Florence in 1991, embarks on an artistic journey that weaves together a rich tapestry of diverse genres, styles and techniques. His wellspring of inspiration flows from avantgarde experiments, surrealistic expressions, and an eclectic array of influences from the realms of film, cutouts, collage, and Bauhausstudies. Influential artists such as Man Ray, Henri Matisse, Norman McLaren, André Kertész and others have indelibly shaped Francesco's creative vision and continue to leave their mark. He aspires to blur the boundaries that separate the real from the abstract and the conscious from the subconscious. Francesco's artistic pursuits navigate the ethereal realms of the oneiric and the surreal, paying homage to art movements such as Dadaism, Abstract Expressionism and Surrealism, resulting in a visual language that synthesizes these diverse influences.
A prominent facet of Francesco's artistic odyssey is his unwavering commitment to exploration. Motivated by the allure of the unknown, he consistently steps out of his comfort zone, embracing uncertainty. It is within these realms of instability and unfamiliarity that he discovers the true essence of his art. Francesco firmly believes that the heart of any piece of art lies in the exploration of the unknown, in willingly immersing oneself in uncertainty, and deftly negotiating the unexpected.
Francesco's work has garnered international acclaim through numerous awards, including the 2022 British Journal of Photography and The Independent Photographer. His photographs have graced the pages of esteemed publications such as The Guardian and The Washington Post, while his art has found a global audience through exhibitions spanning the UK, USA, Africa, and Europe.
