Provenance: From a private London collection 

Medium: Oil on canvas 

Period late 17th to mid 18th century 
Overall size with the frame is 103cm x 78cm x 5cm and the painting measured at 82cm x 61cm 


A beautifully composed late 17th to early 18th century Italian School oil on canvas painting in the manner or school of Carlos Maratta depicting the Holy Family. Very finely painted, the work is superbly decorative and an ideal addition for the collector of early Italian religious - themed paintings. The painting displays lovely tactile tonality and use of light. 

Carlo Maratta  (1625 - 1713) was an Italian Baroque painter and drawer, active principally in Rome where he was the leading painter in the second half of the 17th century. He was a fresco and canvas painter who painted in a wide range of genres, including history and portrait painting. He is the leading representative of the classicising style in the Italian Late Baroque period. 

Condition. Report 

In good condition for its antiquity. The painting has been lined most probably circa 100-150 years ago.There is craquelure throughout but the paint surface is stable. There are scattered restorations and small areas of retouching and the painting has had a recent light clean .The canvas is in good tension.

The frame is being provided to you at no additional costs so that when your artwork arrives at your house you can immediately display it on your wall. As such any damages to the frame itself, that do not affect the integrity of the artwork, cannot be accepted as a valid reason to open a claim or request a cancellation.

We would also point out that whilst we insure all paintings before shipping that we have no control over shipping once we have sent the painting .

The successful bidder will be responsible for paying any import duties and any associated VAT in the country of destination . Please refer to the auction terms regarding this before bidding.

All shipping is professionally packed. .The Brexit situation has eased and we have been getting most paintings shipped to most parts of the EU with 5 working days but we cannot guarantee this due to current conditions. We have on a couple of occasions experienced a few delays with customs in certain countries over the last few weeks.
