Gabriel Glockendon Prayer Book for Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg – Limited Edition Full facsimile
Limited Edition of 499 copies (this copy, number 269) Full-size color facsimile of the entire original document Codex 1847 of the Austrian National Library in Vienna , the facsimile attempts to replicate the look-and-feel and physical features of the original document; pages are trimmed according to the original format.
Published 2008 by Bibliotheca Rara, Munster.
2 volumes, facsimile volume 99 leaves (200 pages) printed in colours and gold, leather binding with gilt decoration to front and spine. Commentary volume (in German) by D. Thoss, 61 pages. Quarto (24.5 x 20 cm), in slipcase (26 x 20 x 6 cm).

About the original Manuscript.
The prayer book  was commissioned by Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg and was completed in 1537. The Nuremberg illuminator Gabriel Glockendon furnished the German-language devotional book, which contains one hundred parchment sheets, with 42 full-page miniatures.
After a “prologue” with the creation of Eve, the book presents the history of salvation from the annunciation to the entombment of Christ, accompanied by typological suitable scenes from the Old Testament in the background. Five devotional miniatures invite meditation over the suffering of Christ.
Georg Stierlein who worked for Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg in Halle has written the text and decorated it with borders and 73 ornamental initials.
Nuremberg and Halle are the places of origin of the Codex, which was completed on 25.9.1537, according to an inserted note.
