'Kawaii' large vintage pink plastic baby-like ‘Kewpie’-doll with its arms and hands spread and with cute small green wings on its back. It has a ‘movable’ head and arms. 

The back with inscription: 17 in a circle and ‘Made in Japan’.

Kewpie Dolls made their debut in 1909 as illustrations in the Christmas issue of Ladies Home Journal in the USA. Drawn by illustrator Rose O'Neill, the illustrations were soon bought to life as real figurines, and were extremely popular in the early 1900's. This was also the case in Japan, and by cleaver branding these cute cherub’s became in the 20’s the face of the new and likely named Mayonnaise brand, which is still active and internationally popular.

Period: Japan - Mid 20th century (Shôwa period).
