The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a 2008 American romantic fantasy drama film directed by David Fincher, loosely based on the 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The film stars Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button, a man who ages in reverse, and Cate Blanchett as his lifelong love interest. The supporting cast includes Taraji P. Henson, Julia Ormond, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas, and Tilda Swinton.

Producer Ray Stark acquired the film rights in the mid-1980s, but the project struggled to take off until the 1990s when it was sold to producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. The film was then moved to Paramount Pictures, with production beginning only after David Fincher and Brad Pitt joined the project, alongside the rest of the cast, in 2005. Principal photography started in November 2006 and concluded in September 2007, with visual effects handled by Digital Domain, especially for Pitt's character's metamorphosis.

The film was released in North America on December 25, 2008, and received positive reviews, particularly for Fincher's direction, Pitt's performance, production values, and visual effects. It was a box office success, grossing $335.8 million worldwide against a budget of $167 million. The film received 13 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Fincher, Best Actor for Pitt, and Best Supporting Actress for Taraji P. Henson, winning three awards: Best Art Direction, Best Makeup, and Best Visual Effects.
